Meet me in the bathroom" The Strokes

Fashion is all about minimalism now. Reduce the decorations/ornamentations. Speak volumes through bold colours. Let its simplicity be beautiful and cool.

Check out:
Chloe
Balenciaga
Miu Miu
Louis Vuitton

The new girl, Jen Brill (half Australian, half Chinese), girlfriend of the cool photographer Terry Richardson.
She's featured in the new issue of i-D, the one with Clemence Poesy on the cover!
Oh and the hot young French actor, Gaspard Ulliel, whos in Hannibal Rising and A Very Long Engagement, who is unbelievably hot and sexy (he speaks near-perfect English, and absolutely perfect French).
When I first saw him on the cover of Vogue Paris, I thought he was a model, since he was photographed with another model, Doutzen Kroes.
He reminded me a tad of Hedi Slimane's model boys.

Buy the new issue of Nylon magazine, with Christina Ricci on the cover.
She's so cool, she has as many as 7 tattoos.
It also features French band Air, Elijah Wood and a photo spread with the cool model Malin Martensson.

One of the cutest dress at the Oscars! (Kirsten Dunst in Chanel couture).

BURMA" Dirty pretty things

NY fashion week is currently running.
And all eyes are on Marc Jacobs (again?), who seem to have taken a new approach to style: cut down the layers and pump up the elegance.
With the promise of a star-studded crowd (Helena Christensen, Rod Stewart and of course Rachel Feinstein), all eyes were also on the new crop of models parading down the Marc runway, such as Amanda Lopes, Tanya C., Cecilia Mendez and Kinga Rajzak.
What was also real cool about the show was the shocking dye jobs of the hair.
Whole head electric blue with an elegant grey suit? I mean seriously, its just so cool. The good mix of elegant dressing with a punky edge(minus the ultra layerings of his past styles).
Another key feature of the show were the billowing hats, and hats reminiscent of those during the 1950s. The 1950s trend was long gone, but he brought it back by mixing it with elegant military dressing and androgynous pantsuits. Plus, some of the hats were in shocking flat colours, which completes each outfit in more ways than one.

Another show which looked real cool was the Erin Fetherston show (which had a performance by Zooey Deschanel).
Flapper dressing with a fairy tale edge.

And also the Diane Von Furstenberg show. With a mixture of studded leather gloves, cool black laced-up boots and elegant and feminine dressings, the models, when parading down the runway, looked like edgy cops undercover for a socialite/debutante event.
Besides that, there were also simple shift dresses with nice pattern works.

In the morning" Razorlight

I finally got my hands on Street: the nylon book of global style (street photography book from the editor of Nylon magazine), and I just cant put it down.
Its so cool. All the real people in cool clothes.
Paris just seemed so cool in the photographs captured in the book. Its like a city with a good mixture of new and old things.
"The best things about Paris are the everyday markets, the piano concerts in the St. Julian le Pauvre Church, and the coffee and cigarettes and flowers and chocolat chaud in the St. Germain des Pres", a quote from a random girl on the Paris streets, from the book.
Its like, I can just imagine the stone architecture bathed in yellow sunlight, with the colourful flowers at one corner of the street, and the aroma of coffee wafting from Parisian cafes.
At the same time with different sorts of French people clad in cool minimalist styled clothes, glued to the newest iPods in the market.
Its like a city where u can hang around a fish market and still wear Chanel boots, and not look overdressed.
Or u can like wear a T-shirt and shorts and drink coffee at the sidewalks and look cool.
What I would give to go to Paris.

Speaking of Paris, a new cool film is coming out, Paris je t'aime (or Paris, I love you).
Filled with a long list of cast, such as Elijah Wood, Marianne Faithfull, Miranda Richardson, Ludivine Sagnier(from Swimming Pool), Maggie Gyllenhaal, Wes Craven, Natalie Portman, Emily Mortimer and more.
From 18 directors, this film comprises of 20 stories, all of which is about love.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0401711/ (for more information).
Hopefully it'll be out in S'pore.

Oscar nominations are out!
(The biggest nomination)Best picture:
The Queen
Letters from Iwo Jima
Babel
The Departed
Little Miss Sunshine

I'm so happy Little Miss Sunshine got nominated. Its like finally, the best picture nomination list should not only consist of serious films. It deserves to win. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

(for the complete list of nominations).
Also, the 2007 couture show photos are out.

for the Chanel show, which I thought looked so cool just from the first photo.

Lola stars and stripes" The Stills

A series of photographs that chronicles the life of one of the greatest designers, Hedi Slimane.
His online diary is like a visual journal.
Shot in black and white, the photographs are mainly centering on the people around him, which also means plenty of eye candy (if one were to take a look at the Dior Homme runway models, you would get what i mean).
http://www.hedislimane.com/diary/index.php

Isnt it funny, how when people are just busy with school and all, and u start thinking of all the things you can do if u're not bogged down with work.
I was like, at the beach the other day doing my photography assignments and I was just like thinking, gee, if only i can like just sit down, relax and enjoy like all those people over there. Its like the beach is so cool. With its smell of cold air (which really reminds me of Ireland), the breeze, and people frolicking in the water or just fishing.
I could have like done it during my holidays?
I swear i'm going to force Jiyi and the rest for a picnic one day during our break.
